The Veil

For those of you who are most familiar with my work, it will be no surprise that I've created yet another piece about what happens to our lives as spirits after death. I'm guess I'm trying to get ready for whatever happens. The boundary that separates life and death has inspired my latest creation for the Bates College Dance Company.

Life and death,
up and down,
known and unknown,
veils create rooms with views
of the other side.

The Veil will be performed Saturday, December 2 @ 5 p.m., Sunday, December 3 @ 2 p.m. and Monday, December 4 @ 7:30 p.m. at Shaeffer Theatre in Lewiston. Also on the program are dances by Carol Dilley, Sarah McCormick, Jodi Melnik and Jennifer Archibald. Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students and $3 for groups! A bargain! For ticket information call 786-6161.

Studio Show at New Dance Studio!

Since I love the movement of this new work so much, I've decided to make a solo version that I will perform myself at New Dance Studio, December 9 @ 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. $10.

Check out New Dance Studio's new website for more information about these intimate performances in Portland.

Dance USM

This will be my fourth year performing at Dance USM and these shows are always a highlight of my year. The students at USM are enthusiastic, creative and edgy. The show is beautifully curated, the lighting is beautiful and the response is always very supportive. In short, it's a great show for lots of reasons. I'll be doing my solo version of The Veil with the full theatrical flourish. Also on the program are student works and plenty of other guest artists. The dancing goes on all weekend, but if you want to catch me, I'm on December 15th at 7:30 p.m.

It's time once again for Building_Community_Through_the_Arts!
The conference this fall will take place on Thursday, November 16th from 9 - 1 at the Unitarian_Universalist_Church in Bangor. Come see the magic happen! Posted by Picasa

Far East!

For those of you who have yet to check out Figures of Speech Theatre, you're in for a treat. Carroll Farrel and I have collaborated on a show entitled Far East! to be presented at the St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center, November 18 at 7 p.m. and November 19th at 2 p.m.
The performance includes two stories. One from China and the other from Japan! The show is beautiful, tragic and hilarious by turns with hand puppets and in the bunraku style. Check out Figures of Speech Theatre at the St. Lawrence Arts and Community Center. Posted by Picasa

Us and Them

I'm working on a new piece at Bates College. The piece explores life and death and the personas we take on to learn from. One of the characters in the piece represents organized religion. I thought this image captured the essence in a beautiful light handed way. Posted by Picasa

But this image...

is strikingly similar in design to the choreographic structure of the piece. With a clear line of transition between life and cutting the space in two, my piece explores barriers between realities. The Veil will be presented at Shaeffer Theatre on the Bates College campus, December 2, 3 and 4. See post above for showtimes! Posted by Picasa
