The students

Here in Samos, we have use of an ancient theatre built into the mountain side above the town. We work each morning before it gets too warm. The students have been exploring all kind of creative movement exercises and getting in touch with their creative connections and to each other.

Isadora Duncan

Following in the cultural colonializing steps of Isadora Duncan, in the last week of the program we wore traditional greek costumes and did some Isadora dancing.Although what Isadora did wasn't culturally accurate and as the students pointed out, the movement and costumes have little to do with modern day Greece, it was still fun.

Monestary of St. John the Divine on the island of Patmos

On the nearby island of Patmos, the monestary of St. John the Divine is a major tourist attraction. The monestary was built several hundreds of years after John, the writer of the book of revelation received his visions in the cave of the apocalypse, also on the island. We couldn't take photos in the cave or monestary, but the cave was really charged with energy. Those rock walls were vibrating!

Dancing in an Almond Grove

We spent one evening here in Greece dancing in an almond grove. Using positive and negative space as technique of making dances, we used these cut off and apparently dead almond trees to create these movement studies

Samos, Greece

This is Christos our famous artist/local coordinator. He's pretty adorable.Here are students Houston, Lynnly and Sally at the castle working on some site specific dances.This is Herion, the ruin of the temple of Hera. At one point, there were 155 columns holding up a marble roof. Quite an amazing place.
